| I've
worked in UA since: 1976. I was a substitute teacher in Upper Arlington
in 1976-77 and started the ice hockey program at UAHS, where I coached from 1977
unitl 1985. We started our printing business, along with my in-laws, in 1979. Prior
to owning R&J Bardon Printing & Graphics: I was a physical education
teacher and substitute taught in UA and Worthington Schools. How
I started my business: My in-laws asked me to join them in the printing
business start-up when I realized a health education program had fallen through,
and I needed something more substantial than subbing and coaching. The
most rewarding part of my job: Satisfying our clients' needs with our customer
service, and our long-lasting relationships with them. The
least rewarding part of my job: Losing a client who has been with us for
a long time. Fortunately, it doesn't happen too often. Trying to keep up with
computer technology is always a treat, too! My
recreational activities: Officiating high school and college hockey through
the years and coaching my sons in travel baseball. I've coached something since
1974 when I graduated from OSU, and love to work with kids. My
family members are: My wife Chris works with me at our shop and we've been
married 28 years. My daughter Shannon is a department manager at Nordstrom's in
Easton. Oldest son Shawn is a freshman at the College of Wooster, where he plays
football and baseball. Youngest son Shane is a sophomore at Watterson, where he
plays football and baseball. Our dog Shar passed away last year. The
best kept secret about my business:
It's not a secret: longtime employees and customer service! The
best kept secret about me: I love my job, but love my family even more! My
favorite UA place to frequent: Roosters after games! St. Andrew for church. My
fondest memories of UA: First UAHS hockey team going 25-4 and finishing
in the Final Four for State Championships; winning the 12-year-old Ohio State
Championship with my son's travel baseball team and going to the World Series
in Omaha; winning the State Championship in Division III football last year, where
my son was voted MVP! My
favorite TV show: 24; Boston Public; NYPD; CSI; Survivor; and all sports! My
future plans for my business: To continue to service our existing clients
and con tinue to grow the business. My
favorite food: Rooster's wings and grilled cheese with tomato soup (Campbell's). My
favorite UA Event or holiday: Christmas - a time to gather with all the
family; UA's 4th of July parade, also! My
greatest inspiration was:
my father, who lived every day to be with his kids and to make our lives a little
easier than his. I strive to do the same for mine. Note
from Les: Columbus has been a great place to raise my family and Upper
Arlington has been good for our business, education, athletics and religious beliefs!
